Sisu

Pronounced See Soo!

Sisu is a Finnish word with a broad meaning:
Extraordinary perseverance.
To use the last reserve of inner strength you have to find the courage and determination to keep fighting.

Raising a child can be a challenging task and even more so if they have a delay or disability. Sometimes your child can struggle or need some extra support. You may be running on your last bit of SISU and you and your family need some understanding and guidance. We are here to listen, to get to know you in your own environment, hear your story and work towards helping provide the best possible supports. We will work together to build positive individual goals and take pride in watching your child grow from strength to strength!

The Service Aim....

We believe every child has a unique combination of special qualities to bring to this world and love finding ways to help them thrive and bloom into their amazing selves.

Once a child feels supported and heard they will be open to learning and amazing personal growth. They will evolve so they can reach their full potential. By spending time with the child and their families, together we can put strategies in place that help build relationships based on trust and respect. This can be done in your home or in their learning environments.

Being a parent, carer or educator can be a truly incredible, fascinating and wonderful experience. It can also be unbelievable, shocking and just outright difficult. That is when you need to use your ‘Sisu’, your last reserve of strength to get through your toughest time.

Tough times require support and sharing a problem is the first step to finding answers. Sometimes you have to think differently to find the answers and we can help you find your way through the maze.

We believe all children's actions/behaviours are a way of communicating that their world is not feeling quite right. Tapping into these clues is part of the services we can provide.

Individualised Sessions

Home based 1:1 educational therapy

I am able to provide personalised educational therapy and support in the home. You may have a concern about your child's behaviour, their learning, an area of development or they may be showing signs of anxiety. If your child has a delay or disability, I can support you with an individualised plan to guide you and your child using their strengths and abilities to grow to their full potential.

Support in School Program

In conjunction with individualised sessions.

Support sessions in your child’s school environment. I can further build upon the connections between your child, yourself and the important people in their school life to promote independence and inclusion. This program can only be put into practice with the approval from the school.

Staff Mentoring

Supportive and understanding.

I am available to observe and work alongside school/centre staff to develop an understanding of individual child’s needs. Practical strategies are provided in consultation of everyone's needs to help support the most inclusive environment for success

Staff or Parent Training

Informative, practical and fun!

I am available to train individuals, small groups or entire staff.

All training can be customised to school or parent group requirements.

For example:

Autism (ASD), anxiety in children, disability, sensory and processing difficulties, using visuals in the classroom and the effects of trauma in children.
